The Hyundai Elite i20 Review

The Hyundai Elite i20 is the number one car from the Hyundai Motors India Limited as far as sales figures are concerned. With average sales figures of above 10,000 units a month the Elite i20 is regularly placed in the list of the top ten best selling cars of India. Launched in 2010 as i20 the vehicle got a facelift in 2014 with a new name Elite i20.

The pricing of the Elite i20 is reasonable and has many variants to choose from.The Hyundai Elite i20 comes in 5 petrol and 5 diesel variants priced Rupees 5.34 to 8.28 lakh. The petrol and diesel variants are in trims of the Era, the Magna, the Sportz, the Sportz Special, the Sportz (O), the Asta and the Asta (O).

The Elite i20 has a stylish body built with the Korean fluidic philosophy. The sportier Elite i20 has a front fascia with a wide compact air dam, a big grille with chrome surrounds and sweptback type head lamps. The other external features include a forward leaning stance, flared wheel arches and blackened out B and C pillars giving a floating roof line impression, long wrap-around type tail lamps.

The cabin of Hyundai Elite i20 is spacious and modern. The standard features in the cabin of the Elite i20 include an engine immobiliser, child lock facility, central locking with key, a manual AC, fabric seats, internally operated ORVMs and full folding rear seats. Top variants have 1 airbag, ABS, EBD, an auto AC, remote central locking, power and tilt steering, rear parking sensor with camera, electric body coloured ORVMs and a 2 Din music system with Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio controls. The Asta variants have 2 air bags. The Sportz variants have features like clutch lock, keyless entry, start-stop push buttons and diamond cut wheels additionally.

The peppy engines of the Elite i20 give good mileages. The 1197 cc, 82 bhp petrol engines give 18.15 kmpl and the 1396 cc, 89 bhp diesel engines give 22.54 kmpl.The petrol variants take13.2 sec for 0 to 100 kmph acceleration and have top speeds of 170 kmph. The diesel ones take 11.9 sec and the top speeds are 180 kmph.

The3985 mm long car has a wheel base of 2570 mm and ground clearance of 170 mm with a boot of 285 litres. The suspensions are McPherson struts at the front and coupled torsion beam axle at the rear.

Competitive prices, modern looks, loaded features and number of variants are the plus points of the Hyundai Elite i20. The competition comes from the likes of the Maruti Swift, the Volkswagen Polo and the Fiat Punto Evo.
