Interior design can be really fun! Like other forms of artistic expression, there is no limit to our imagination.
However, not every solution is a good one. Sometimes, while trying to make an idyllic home, we forget that these interior alterations also have another purpose besides visual: to make our home more functional.
Whenever you start decorating your home, it is necessary to consider both sides of the story. This is why we have written a short guide that will point out all these small functional alterations that you should introduce today!
Consider removing the doors
What is so great about doors? If you have a small family, they only limit you making the interaction worse and making you feel secluded.
But, as if that wasn’t enough, there is another, decorative reason to remove them. This move will make your house look bigger.
This small trick is especially great for small apartment that already seem confined as it is. Without doors you get much more space in your home. So, it’s a win-win solution.
Get a Hollywood mirror for your bedroom
Only a small number of people actually uses professional makeup mirror. This is pretty absurd if you think about it. Given how much time we spend applying makeup, it is logical to get items that will quicken and simplify the process.
By getting a Hollywood mirror for your bedroom, not only are you simplifying the process, you are also able to apply it while sitting comfortably in a chair (which can’t be done in bathroom). Furthermore, mirrors have become a popular wall decoration.
Due to their smooth surface and usually simple frames, they are a perfect fit for modern architecture.
Get bigger furniture
Whenever we buy furniture, we buy it based on our current needs. This is especially common for cabinets and closets. The problem is that we always need more space. Trinkets and small items will always continue pilling and at the end of the day, we will lack space sooner than later.
Next time you go shopping, make sure to get the biggest items in the store. Furniture purchase shouldn’t be based on your current needs and wants or the décor of your home. Instead, you need to predict how your home will look in 7 or 8 years.
Naturally, you can always get a new set at that time but if you constantly behave like that it will become a financial burden.
Go high, not wide
Whether we are talking about furniture or some other items that are decorating your home, you always should go high, not wide.
In terms of the design, it looks much better if entire side of the room is occupied by something not even allowing you to see the wall. But, as previously mentioned it is also very functional. By using high furniture, you are able to occupy upper regions of the room; regions that otherwise have no function besides perhaps for placing some pictures. Also, it allows you to get more pieces (that are also high) and maximize the space.
There are so many simple, functional solutions that we usually neglect. We always think in terms of visual dreaming how beautiful our home may be. But, this often means that you will need to sacrifice the space.
If you prefer décor to anything else then more power to you. However, if this uncalculated behavior stars annoying you then, it is much better to switch things up and go for options that will be useful, not pretty.
